And Halted…

Season 03 Launched the beginning of 2022, a return to more vanilla-adjacent Minecraft. Due to a lot of life stuff documenting the season lagged, and nearly dying from leukemia put the season on a sudden halt. I’m doing good all things considered now.

I’ve set up a Season 03 Page, and populated it as best I can for now. I’ll try to fill in the missing bits when I’m able.

Because life is still a little … chaotic … CoffeeCraft is going on an indefinite hiatus. Depending on how things go in the future we may start things back up for Season 04. I wish I had more to write, and maybe I’ll come back and at least elaborate a little more, but most of what needs to be said is either on the Season 03 page or the personal update I wrote on my website.

We planned the end of Season 01 for when 1.17 launched. The intent was to enjoy some new Caves and Cliffs and all the things that went along with them… and then the update got split. So, we’re still starting a new season - but it’s going to be a chance to play some Skyblock. We’ve all mostly played vanilla Minecraft (except Arcaidius - he’s played a fair amount of Pixelmon), so this is a chance to try something new.

We’re using the relatively simple uSkyBlock Revived on Spigot. Other than the required plug-ins, we’re also using CustomOreGen to keep the block acquisition process from getting too grindy. Unfortunately uSkyBlock Revived hasn’t been updated to 1.17 yet, so we’re not going to be able to use any of the new blocks this go-round.

Because we’re still in 1.16.5, we’re using the same datapacks, crafting tweaks, and resources from Vanilla Tweaks that we used in Season 01; with the minor addition of less streaky glass and the addition of the Durability Ping datapack.

This and links to the various textures and resources we use is available on the Season 02 page.

World Downloads

I’ve also gone back and made the world download for Season 00 and Season 01 available on their respective Season page.
I made a couple small changes to the resource pack we use on the server today. Most of the resources are still from VanillaTweaks, and can be had via the links on the Season 01 page.

What’s new is a change to the Totem of Undying. It’s a small change that I’ve talked about, and finally got around to. I’ll let you check out the live stream to see if you spot it. 🙃

I also added my second ever resource pack - some custom Wandering Trader voices! After making a resource pack that replaced the Villager voices, and having a lot more fun with it than I expected, I put this together for the Wandering Trader. It’s still a little “Version 1”-ish. I never really worked on voices before, so getting something that is both different and usable is still a bit of a struggle.

The pack replaces all the wandering trader vocalizations with some actual audio work, voiced by me, and altered so it’s not me listening to me every time a wandering trader spawns in the middle of my redstone. You can hear some examples and get a quick run-down in the video below:

Just a reminder, we’re still running a “vanilla” server in the sense that we’re using the JAR from Mojang. We are using a few datapacks, crafting tweaks, and resources from Vanilla Tweaks and VooDooBeard to round off a few edges.

Updated Datapacks, Crafting Tweaks, and Textures

Speaking of which, I went to the Vanilla Tweaks website and grabbed updated versions of the various resources that we use from them. I’ve updated all of the links to what we use on the Season 01 page.

We’re back to the Vanilla Tweaks player graves, the one from VooDooBeard wasn’t working right again… (also removed the Death Book/Message from VooDooBeard too.)

I’m also using a few extra textures that’s not a part of the main CoffeeCraft Texture Pack. While trying to stick to the original goal of keeping as close to “vanilla” as possible, these scratch a few itches that bug me personally, but not the other server members. If you want to see what I’m choosing to add, you can see most of “AnonJr’s Extra Textures” here: https://vanillatweaks.net/share#Gh8qWD (I did remove the Ancient Debris from the Uniform Ore portion though. Didn’t like the way it blended in with the quartz.)

I’ve got a few extra Datapacks that I run in my creative testing world, mostly so I can check and assess various bits. They’re not really appropriate to run on the server as they don’t help/enhance the survival experience.
We’re still using the Player Graves datapack that VooDooBeard built instead of the Vanilla Tweaks one, even though there’s a new version that should be fixed. This one is working well enough, so we’re not going to change it for now. (Still using the Death Book/Message from VooDooBeard too.) The updated Wandering Trader is also being used, and still has our heads instead of the Hermit heads.

We’ve added the Climbable Chains, Faster Leaf Decay, and Recipe Unlocking data packs. Climbable chains keep to the idiom of Minecraft while adding a logical feature, and the latter two are some quality of life changes. We’ve also added the first draft of a painting Rayeste wants to use to wallpaper the community storage. The original sketch is in a format that’s … difficult to convert. We’ll see how this one goes.

I’m also using a few extra textures that’s not a part of the main CoffeeCraft Texture Pack.
I’ve updated the Vanilla Tweaks link on the Season 01 page. As noted before, we’re still using the Player Graves datapack that VooDooBeard built instead of the Vanilla Tweaks one due to some issues in the current version. We’ll look at going back when it’s been updated. I’ve also added the Death Book/Message from VooDooBeard as well, since one of the features we’ve been missing from the old Graves datapack was the message in chat with the location you died at.

We customized the Wandering Trader to use our heads instead of the Hermit heads.

We added the Coordinates HUD datapack to the server. Everyone is now on board with getting coordinates and not blocking most of the screen with debug text.

I’m also using a few extra textures that’s not a part of the main CoffeeCraft Texture Pack. While trying to stick to the original goal of keeping as close to “vanilla” as possible, these scratch a few itches that bug me personally, but not the other server members.
I made a couple small changes to the resource pack we use on the server today. Most of the resources are still from VanillaTweaks, and can be had using this link: https://vanillatweaks.net/share#BpsjBs. Also from VanillaTweaks, we have the textures for the wrench and a couple other data pack related items.

What’s new is a change to the Wolf - after grabbing a texture from Planet Minecraft, our tamed wolves should look like Black Labs. It’s one of those things we’d been talking about but never quite got around to it.

I also added my very first resource pack - some custom villager voices! It’s a very “version 1” bit of voice work, and is at this stage more for me to nail down the mechanics of how to build this sort of thing before I go through the time and work of scripting, recording, and editing something a little better. You can hear some examples and get a quick run-down in the video below:

If you’ve been watching the live streams, you’ll know that we’ve been having problems with the Player Graves datapack again. We’re at the point where the next “fix” involves completely nuking the Player Data/Advancements/etc.…

Since that was a step too far, we’ve removed the Vanilla Tweaks version of Player Graves and installed the Player Graves datapack that VooDooBeard built. It’s a little full-circle, since his datapack was the one we started Season 00 with before moving everything to the Vanilla Tweaks versions.

On the one hand, we’ll be missing some features - on the other we shouldn’t be missing any items. We hope.

Some of the YouTubers I watch are also having some issues (well, the ones that run on a server somewhere - the local single-players are doing just fine) so it may just be a problem with the 1.15.x server series. We’ve got a weekly reboot scheduled and so far that seems to keep things manageable.

Datapack Updates

As before, we’re still running a “vanilla” server in the sense that we’re using the JAR from Mojang. We updated the datapacks, crafting tweaks, and resources from Vanilla Tweaks to the latest version of each (though at the time of posting it looks like I might need to update a couple more).

Here’s the links if you want to play along with our current server setup:

Vanilla Tweaks also added some custom trades for the Wandering Trader. I grabbed the datapack and edited it to offer our heads instead of the Hermit heads, and I kept in the mini-block trades. Seems to have been a very popular addition.

OptiFine Testing

Some of us are also running a pre-release version of OptiFine, and the most recent releases seem quite stable. I’ve been testing out the shader support, and it seems to be great (well… within the limits of my PC).

I meant to write it up earlier, we've updated datapacks, the server version, and one new treat.

Season 01 - Start of Something New!

New Year, New Season, New Member

Season 01, new year, new server, new member - we’re starting today, 01 Jan 2020, on a fresh 1.15.1 server with the seed 1057265842. We’re still running on the hosting package by CubedHost as it’s been a great experience so far (other than some self-inflicted issues). Season 00 was a great starter/learning season, now we start for realz. :)

This is also the season that our good friend XMedic_Frog joins the server.

We’re still running a “vanilla” server in the sense that we’re using the JAR from Mojang. We are using a few datapacks, crafting tweaks, and resources from Vanilla Tweaks to round off a few edges.
